Private sessions

Private group yoga in the Yorkshire Dales

A gentle hour shaped around whoever’s in the room, wherever you’re staying. Everything is provided — all you need is a little floor space.

A class of your own

Sometimes it’s nicer to practise with people you already know. A few friends who’d like a slow morning together. A family staying somewhere in the Dales. Two people who’d rather share a session than walk into a class alone.

A private group session is exactly that — a class built around the people in it, at a time that suits you, somewhere you’re already comfortable. No timetable to fit around, no strangers, and no need for anyone to have done yoga before.

We’ll talk first about who’s coming and how you’d like to feel afterwards — steadier, stretched out, or simply quiet for a while — and I’ll shape the hour around that. If half the group has never been on a mat and the other half practises every week, that’s genuinely fine. There are always options, and nobody is watched.

What a session can be

Nothing here is fixed. These are just the shapes these sessions usually take.

Gentle morning yoga, for a slow and kind start to the day. Slow flow, with mindful movement at an unhurried pace. Yin and deep rest, with long quiet holds and a proper relaxation at the end.

A stretch and a wind-down after a walk, for legs that have been up a fell. A calm opening or close to a weekend spent together. Or a session for two — partners, friends, a parent and an adult child.

If you have something else in mind, do say. It’s your hour.

Ways to bring a group together

Staying in the Dales

If you’re here for a few days, I can come to your cottage or wherever you’re staying, and work around the rest of your plans.

A hen weekend

A calm, beginner-friendly start to the day that suits every level of confidence in the group.

Retreats and wellbeing weekends

Guest or cover teaching — a single session, or a series across a weekend.

The practical bits

Sessions work well for anything from two people upwards. For larger groups it becomes a question of the room rather than the yoga, so do ask and we’ll work out what’s possible.

I bring mats, blocks, bolsters and blankets for everyone, so there’s nothing for you to buy or borrow. All you need is enough floor for everyone to lie down with their arms out — a living room with the furniture pushed back is usually plenty, and a village hall is ideal for a larger group.

Cost depends on the length of the session, the size of the group and how far I’m travelling. Send me a message and I’ll confirm the full cost before anything is booked.

Outdoors is lovely when the weather allows, and we’ll always agree a plan for moving inside if it doesn’t. Nobody should be lying on wet grass in the Dales in hope.

Where I travel

I’m based in Skipton and travel out across the southern Yorkshire Dales — Gargrave, Grassington, Threshfield, Embsay, Bolton Abbey, Addingham, Cononley, Malham and Settle, along with the villages in between.

If you’re further out than that, it’s still worth asking. Longer journeys often work for a larger group or a weekend booking, and if it turns out I can’t reach you, I’d rather say so early than leave you waiting.

Questions people often have

None of us has done yoga before. Is that a problem?+

Not at all — it’s one of the nicest ways to start. Everything is offered as an invitation rather than an instruction, and there’s no sequence to keep up with. Mixed groups work well too; people are often relieved to find they’re not the only beginner.

Do we need to bring anything?+

Only comfortable clothes you can move in. I bring mats, blocks, bolsters and blankets for everyone.

How much space do we need?+

Enough floor for each person to lie down with their arms stretched out. A living room with the sofa pushed back usually does it. If you’re not sure, send me a photo of the room and I’ll tell you honestly.

Can we practise outside?+

Yes, when the weather is kind — and we’ll always agree a plan for moving indoors if it isn’t. Nothing about a wet field is restful.

What does it cost?+

Cost depends on the length of the session, the size of the group and how far I’m travelling. Send me a message and I’ll confirm the full cost before anything is booked.

How much notice do you need?+

The more the better, especially for summer weekends, which tend to go first. That said, it’s always worth asking even at short notice — sometimes it works.

Tell me about your group

Send me a message with roughly when you’re thinking, how many of you there are and where you’ll be, and I’ll come back to you with what’s possible. There’s no commitment in asking.
